**DUE TO THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK ALL LAKE COUNTY RESIDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY THE VIRUS, PHYSICALLY OR FINANCIALLY MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE PET FOOD PANTRY**

Cause 4Paws Gary, INC has designed this program is to help reduce pet over-population of dogs and cats in the City of Gary by providing residents with affordable, responsible pet ownership services to reduce overpopulation, and provide temporary pet food support . The target group is those who are suffering from an adverse financial hardship, or are receiving assistance from the following agencies:
- Major VA Disability
- SSI/SSI Disability
- EBT Food Stamp Assistance
- Public School Free Lunch Program
- Energy Assistance
- Section 8 Housing.
Participants must have a valid State issued photo ID that matches the application address.
We encourage spay/neuter services to help keep overpopulation, the spread of disease, and prevention of life-threaten and expensive painful surgeries of your household pets. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have suspended the proof of spay/neuter of your household pets, however, it is encouraged.
Cause 4Paws Gary is an official spay/neuter assist group with Humane Indiana Services(formerly Spay Neuter Services of Indiana). We can help to facilitate the a low-cost spay/neuter voucher for $25.00 when you meet the above-listed qualifications.
Street Cats(outside): $40.00
Offers rental of humane traps, or assistance from the Guardian to trap members of the colony. Spay/neuter, ear-tip, rabies vaccine, pain medication, and return to base camp.
GARY PET FOOD PANTRY
Cause 4Paws Gary offers pet food assistance to qualified low-income residents in need. We offer dog food, cat food and cat litter. This is an available service to assure that the family pet has high quality nutrition for their daily sustainability. Enrollees must apply each month that the service is needed. Every pet in the household should be spayed/neutered/vaccinated or enrolled in our program to receive services.
Must be at least 18 years of age to apply
Only the applicant can pick up requested pet supplies
We DO NOT offer delivery service.
Multiple requests for supplies from the same household will not be honored
Residents attempting to acquire more supplies that what has been issued per household will be permanently banned from the pantry
Residents may NOT add new animals to their food request. Exception: pregnant females
If the resident has a pregnant female in their care, they must indicate that information during the application process.
The pantry is not in a position to feed littering animals, as works against our goal to stop pet overpopulation in the City of Gary, and surrounding communities.
Any participant that pre-registers for pet food, but fails to show up at least two consecutive months will be restricted from future registrations.
The Gary Pet Food Pantry is designed to be a temporary support system for pet parents in need. It is NOT designed to sustain animals for duration of their life.
Any resident that is rude, disrespectful or disruptive with our volunteers will be permanent banned from the pantry.
Emergency Medical Care:
Medical assistance funding is available for owned pets on a limited basis to assist with emergency surgeries, and cancer cases. Subject to availability. Does not cover routine vaccinations,x-rays,bloodwork,and grooming. Funding may cover a portion of the office visit at a pre-approved veterinarian for a diagnosis or second opinion. There is no guarantee that services will be approved. Payment is made directly to the vet's office. Funding can not be used to reimburse a pet owner.
